An apology, and the changes we've made to storage
Some uploaded scripts and pastes were lost due to a third-party storage issue. We take full responsibility, and we've moved to a new, stable provider to make sure this cannot happen again.
We have to start this post with an apology, and we want to make it a sincere one, not a formality.
Over the past period, a portion of scripts and pastes uploaded by our users were lost. This was not something we noticed and fixed quietly. It was a real failure, it affected real people who trusted us with their work, and it should never have happened. We are deeply sorry.
What happened
We relied on a third-party storage provider to hold uploaded script and paste content. That provider lost a significant portion of that data without warning and without a way for us to recover it. We only discovered the scope of the loss after users began reporting scripts that no longer worked, which is itself something we regret. You should never have to be the ones to tell us something is broken.
We take full responsibility for this. We chose that provider, we trusted it with your work, and we did not have a strong enough safety net in place when that trust turned out to be misplaced. That is on us, not on you, and not on the provider alone.
What we did
We audited every script and paste in our system to understand exactly how much was affected, and we were honest with ourselves about the number, even when it was not a small one. For anything that could still be recovered, we recovered it. For what could not be recovered, we owe those users a direct apology, and if you believe your work was affected, please reach out to us so we can make it right as best we can.
We have since moved all script and paste storage to a new, premium, enterprise-grade storage platform built for exactly this kind of reliability. This was not a small migration. We rebuilt how content is stored, read, and served across the entire platform, and we tested it thoroughly before trusting it with your data. We are intentionally not naming the specific provider here, as a matter of security practice, not evasion.
What changes going forward
- All script and paste content now lives on infrastructure with far stronger durability guarantees than before.
- We no longer depend on a single third-party service as the only copy of your work.
- We audited our systems end to end while doing this, specifically to make sure there was no way for this kind of loss to happen again, silently or otherwise.
To everyone affected
We know an apology does not bring back what was lost, and we are not writing this to move past it quickly. We are writing it because we believe you deserve to know exactly what happened, why it happened, and what we have done so it does not happen again. We let you down once. We are not willing to let it happen a second time.
